members in attaining their personal speaking and leadership goals
Fellow Toastmasters,
As our Land of Sky Toastmasters chapter supports all its members in attaining their personal speaking and leadership goals, as well as chapter goals in the wider Toastmasters International organization, we need to get a “snapshot” of where each of us stands in the process of achieving those goals.
Please take a moment to review and note your progress through the Toastmasters manual you are currently using. In some cases, you will be working toward completing two manuals to reach the next competency level. Then, consider the time you have to devote to completing the requirements for meeting that next goal by the end of May, 2009. You have the option of moving to a “fast track” toward achieving your goal by allowing us to schedule your speeches more frequently if you wish to do so. At the same time, we support our members in going at a pace of accomplishment that is tailored specifically to their needs.
Additionally, if you have slipped away from the discipline of using a manual, you are urged to return to that practice – whether it means repeating a manual, picking up a manual that you have not completed, or considering a manual you have not yet attempted. This not only benefits you and your progress, but is a great benefit to your fellow Toastmasters as they learn from your participation.
Please print and complete this form and submit it to your Vice President of Education at the next Toastmasters meeting, or provide the information by return email. With this input from our members, we will prepare a chart noting our progress and achievements in the Toastmasters International program.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact me or any of our Land of Sky officers.

Presentation is Everthing
I just spent the weekend at the Hyatt hotel in Jacksonville, FL
and the hotel was amazing. It had a Huge lobby, Big LCD's behind the front desk, Marble counters in the lobby and in the rooms. It was just an amazing hotel.
However, in the meeting rooms they had the typical pen and paper, and I was very disappointed
in the pens! It's a great hotel and then they give out cheap 5 cent pens! what a let down, and poor representation of an amazing hotel. It's like they ran out of money.
My point is, when you speak, you may have great speech, but if you have dirt on your sleeve and don't tuck in your shirt it can effect your overall presentation.
Come join us every Tuesday 7am at Shoney's on Long shoals rd, we welcome all guests.

June 17th 2008
We had a great meeting yesterday! Since I am pressed for time today as I am going out of town, I just wanted to thank everyone for their participation and congratulate our winners who were Marilyn for Best Speech, Steve B. for Best Evaluator and Holly for Best Table Topics Response.
On another matter, we had a great officer transition meeting last evening hosted very nicely by Ali at his office. We had almost all outgoing and incoming officers present. Thanks to Ali, Steve B., Brian B., Dawn, Shawn, Cindy, Glenda and Marilyn for their time and talents in attending and in their extraordinary interest in the health and well-being of our club. Understandably, Gini and Pat were not able to attend as Gini was sick and Pat was out of town. I would greatly appreciate it if they would please get with Dawn and Ali, respectively, about transitioning their officer roles.
Re TLI, I will be registering Brian B., Shawn, Dawn, Marilyn and Steve B. I just need to know if Pat and Gini can attend. If not, no big deal as we will have 4 with the names I have mentioned, but please let me know today, if possible.
Two other items were discussed at last night’s meeting. The first dealt with reminding the Table Topics Master that the questions should not be directed to people with major roles, such as speakers and the TM.
The second dealt with the fact that evaluators should stick to evaluating only the topic they are assigned. For example, the GE should evaluate the speech evaluators and the meeting overall but not offer his or her own comments re grammatical errors or AH’s, as those items are covered by the GR and the AC.
Maria-please let me know if you will attending TLI so I can tell you if we have room in the van for you. Thanks.
Thanks and have a great week.

Today's meeting June 10th 2008
We had a very productive, exhilarating meeting this morning! We had 11 members present, 2 speeches, 3 Table Topics and we were done by 7:45!
Meredith gave an awesome speech about the organization, Women for Women. Her Powerpont presentation was great. Ali’s speech on presenting an award was entertaining, interesting and inspiring.
Our Toastmaster, Pat, ran a well-organized, efficient meeting. Her pre-planning was key. Her filler facts about our great State of NC were very entertaining.
Pat did a nice job as IM as well. Gini was our TK and gave both a nice intro and a good report at the end of our meeting.
Harry’s joke was very funny, and as Brian B. said, somewhat subtle.
Steve B.’s TT session was very well done. Our respondents, Marilyn, Dawn and Shawn, were at the top of their game.
Our speech evaluators, Dawn, who evaluated Ali, and Harry, who evaluated Meredith, did well and mentioned both glows and grows in their evaluations.
Our AC and GR, Marilyn and Shawn, respectively, gave good, albeit short, reports.
Brian B.’s general evaluation was quite detailed and helpful to all of us.
Shawn counted the votes very efficiently, despite one or two late votes.
As I mentioned at the start of today’s meeting, thanks to Brian B., Pat and Steve B. for agreeing to be officers next year. Brian will be our President, Pat will be our Treasurer and Steve will be our Sergeant-at-Arms.
Congratulations to our winners today, Meredith for Best Speaker, Dawn for Best Table Topics and Brian Bothe, for Best Evaluator.
We have a fine slate of dedicated, very competent Toastmasters and leaders who will do well as our exec team next year. Thanks to all seven of them for being willing to step up and lead our club. I stand ready to support you and help you in any way I can. I assure you that you will enjoy the experience.
As a reminder, Our Toastmaster next week is Brian B. Our GE is Steve L. Our speakers are Meredith, Susan and Marilyn.
Best regards until next week.
Ed McGowan
